BPL has been a certified Homeschool Friendly Library with Homeschool Help since 2020, when we saw more families choosing to learn at home during the pandemic. At that time, library staff were trained in the nature of home-based learning in Canada and the types of services that support learning at home, as well as common approaches and curriculum for homeschooling. We love helping families to super-power their learning!
We’ve also found that families using the school system have benefited from the expanded collection we offer, since parents often want to support their children’s learning outside of the classroom with things like early literacy, math skills and research projects. As a public library, we know that learning brings joy no matter where it happens.
