SUMMARY:Film Screenings: Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again; Feather Fall
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special double-screening from the National Film Board\, in honour of Indigenous History Month. \n  \nMary Two-Axe Earley: I am Indian Again (33 min) \nThis film shares the powerful story of Mary Two-Axe Earley\, who fought for more than two decades to challenge sex discrimination against First Nations women embedded in Canada’s Indian Act and became a key figure in Canada’s women’s rights movement. \nFeather Fall (23 min) \nTen years after capturing a defining image of Indigenous resistance—Amanda Polchies kneeling in prayer with an eagle feather in hand before a line of RCMP in riot gear—Inuk filmmaker and journalist Ossie Michelin returns to Elsipogtog\, New Brunswick. Feather Fall reconnects with the women and warriors who stood on the frontlines of a historic anti-fracking standoff\, reflecting on its impact and the community’s enduring legacy of resistance. Told through an Indigenous lens\, the film is a powerful meditation on sovereignty\, healing and the strength of collective action.

SUMMARY:Film Screenings: Into the Light & Inkwo
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special screening from the National Film Board\, in honour of Pride Month. No registration is required. \nInto Light (19 min) \nSet against the Northern landscape of Yellowknife\, Sheona McDonald’s new documentary\, Into Light\, captures a season of change as a mother and child navigate the complexities of gender identity together. As elemental changes parallel this extraordinary journey\, the return of brighter days uncovers a confident and social little girl with an encyclopedic knowledge of dinosaurs\, a deep love of animals\, and a parent who fully embraces this magical person. \nInkwo (19 min) \nTwo lifetimes from now the world hangs in the balance. Dove\, a young\, enigmatic\, gender-shifting warrior\, discovers the gifts and burdens of their Inkwo (medicine) to defend against an army of hungry\, ferocious monsters. Dove’s courage\, resilience and alliance with the Earth culminates in a battle against these flesh-consuming creatures\, who become stronger with each body and soul they devour. Inkwo: for When the Starving Return is a call to action to fight and protect against the forces of greed around us.
